What Causes Severe Pain In Back Under Last Right Rib?

my husband has a severe pain in back on the right side underneath the last rib. in 3 weeks he has had a ct and a petscan and a endescopy and colonoscopy and mri. scope showed barrets esophagus (no precancer) and a fungus. was given calafate for esophagus and antibiotic for fungus. has been on antibiotic for 9 days with no relief. what next

Hi,

1. As I'm unable to examine him directly, and also cannot take a meticulous history, thus based on the brief history and examination provided by you, I'm of the following assumption:
- At present, all I can say is that it might be a gastrointestinal symptom thus you should contact a general surgeon [for any inflammatory pathology].
- As the pain is on the right side, ask for ultrasonography of HBR [hepatobiliary region] for Amoebic liver abscess and cholecystitis.
- Pain could be a pleural pathology. [ask for a chest X-ray to exclude pleuritis, pleural effusion].

PS. Consult a chest specialist who will go for systemic examination; if any chest signs are present, the doctor will ask for imaging scans of the chest with Hb%, WBC, ESR, and then will provide proper management [as they can ask more detailed questions on associated symptoms].
