What Causes Severe Pain Below The Rib Cage?

Last night i was in the emergency ward of my local hospital with extreme pain right below my middle to the right of my rib cage. They gave me an IV with pain meds until the pain subsided. They then had me do a CAT scan. THey only thing the found was that me spleen was a little larg1999, I was felling better so they sent me home but made arrangements for an MRI today. Can you tell me what these systems could lead to. I had a diverticulitis surgery in 1999 and a gastric bypass in 2007. Thank yu

Hi,

Enlarged spleen should be evaluated further for splenic mass or abscess. Since spleen is soft tissue structure, MRI is must for complete evaluation. CT scan is usually giving more idea about bony structure. So to find out cause for your enlarged spleen, MRI is ordered.
