What Causes Severe Pain At The Top Of Leg After Exercising?

I have recently started exercising on my bike for half an hour - a couple of hours after doing the exercise I get an excruciating pain at the top (front) of my leg which hurts even more when I stand up straight. It eventually (after 5 minutes) subsides - but in the meantime it is very painful (enough to break me out into a sweat). Once it subsides I sometimes feel a tweak of discomfort in the same place (but nowhere near as painful as at first). It has only happened once, so I decided to stop exercising on the bike. However. I wish to commence using the bike again, did it last night and although the excruciating pain did not return I can sometime feel a minor tweak where it happened before

Hello,

Since you are a beginner in a gym and have recently started exercising, go slow but steady. Do not over strain and do not go too fast for it will cause hurt and discomfort. You are suggested to follow a gym instructor and do not do it your way. Start slow and take a steady pick-up. Overuse of muscles all of a sudden causes pain due to delayed onset muscle soreness. Always wear comfortable clothes, avoid too tight clothing.

After exercising on the bike, you should do stretch exercises to help relieve tension in the muscles. Stay well hydrated, lack of essential minerals like sodium, magnesium, calcium, potassium, etc, cause muscle cramps or soreness. Avoid getting dehydrated. Stay well fed. Deficiency of vitamin D, B1, B5, B6 also trigger muscle cramps and pain. Take food rich in these vitamins or supplements. For relief, you can take Combiflam or Naproxen, one SOS after food. You can also apply pain relieving ointment or sprays (Volini) to ease discomfort.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
