What Causes Severe Pain Above The Hip?

This morning about 2 am my left side just above my hip began to hurt with a pretty severe pain. The pain is somewhere in the soft tissue of the abdomen on the left side. At first I thought that it had been something that I ate. After about 30 minutes that pain subsided but then again almost an hour later it began again. This happened once again about 4:30 in the morning. Finally it subsided enough that I could get a little sleep. Now, almost 12 hours later it s beginning again. I just went to the bathroom and noticed that my urine was yellow but there was a brown tint to it but it was almost as if the brown coloration separated from the yellow of the urine and settled towards the bottom of the commode. Should I go to urgent care or just ride it out and see if it gets better?

Urologist 's  Response
Hi.
The differential diagnoses for ur symptoms includes : 1. ureteric colic, 2. menstrual irregularity...ovarian cyst 3. diverticulitis.
But with urine with slight reddish or brownish makes me feel u have ureteric colic secondary to ureteric calculus.
U need urine routine and culture and Ultrasound KUB as preliminary tests.
Urine routine and culture will rule out any associated infection and also indicate possibility of stone as crystals may be present.
Ultrasound KUB will show hydronephrosis in kidney or ovarian abnormality.
Thereafter u need Plain CT for confirmation of diagnosis.
Take analgesics to reduce pain.
Review with reports so that I can guide u further.
