Hi,
Severe
muscle cramps in the sides between ribs and hips can be caused by a variety of factors such as
dehydration, electrolyte imbalances,
muscle fatigue, and nerve compression. In some cases, it may be a symptom of an underlying medical condition such as kidney problems or
peripheral artery disease.
Since your blood work has come back to normal, it is less likely that your muscle cramps are caused by a medical condition. However, it is still important to discuss your symptoms with your doctor to rule out any underlying medical conditions that may be contributing to your muscle cramps.
In the meantime, you may find relief from your muscle cramps by staying well hydrated, maintaining a balanced diet that includes foods rich in potassium and
magnesium, and stretching regularly. It may also be helpful to avoid activities that cause muscle fatigue or strain, such as standing or sitting for long periods. If your muscle cramps persist or become more frequent, speak with your doctor about other treatment options.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
