What Causes Severe Lower Jaw Pain Despite Taking Advil?
I have severe lower jaw pain (on a scale of 1 - 10 with 10 being the worst, it s a 6 or 7. Taking Advil reduces it to a 2. I have had this for approx 8 days. It feels like the nerve along the lower edge of my jaw is on fire. Other than a tooth problem, what might cause this?
As per your complain pain in.lower jaw can be most commonly due to causes like deeply infected teeth or problems related to wisdom teeth like inflamed gum flap around the wisdom tooth...
Causes other than it can be jaw joint disorders like TMJ/ TMD, teeth grinding or bruxism, teeth clenching habit, jaw fractures, nerve related disorders like Trigeminal neuralgia, jaw joint dislocation etc..
I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a Panoramic x ray will help in ruling out the cause and treatment can be done accordingly..
As of now you can take higher painkillers like Tramadol and avoid hard foods.. Avoid excessive mouth opening. Avoid Stress and take sufficient rest..
Hope this helps..
Regards .
