What Causes Severe Leg Cramps After An Injury?

I jammed my left calf into the wheel well on a bus last Friday. My leg still hurts to walk on, move, and there seems to be an indentation in the muscles as compared with my other leg. The bone on the side of my knee hurts to touch but not when I walk. I get leg cramps frequently and I thought it was just a stubborn and painful cramp. Any ideas? Currently treating with ice and pain meds.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to a muscle strain. I suggest using anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen to relieve the pain. I also suggest taking magnesium supplements. I recommend to rest and avoid movements that can trigger the symptoms. Warm compresses can also be helpful to relax the muscles.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
