What Causes Severe Itching On The Outer Thighs?

Hi I was out shopping and my outer thighs on both legs began to itch uncontrollably so bad that I had to go home. I assumed it was my jeans but I tried another pair of pants and it didn t change. Later on I noticed huge dark black and red bruises in the same spots. There feels like there is a lump on the left thigh and they hurt to touch

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
I have gone through your query and understand your concern
If I were your treating Doctor for this case of severe itching on both leg, I would come up with three possibilities, these include:
1. Contact dermatitis: Diagnosis should be confirmed by examination. Chemical cosmetic, soap, clothes may cause dermatitis.
I treat as follow: application of mupirocin and steroid ointment for 7 days.
Tablet levocetrizine at bed time. Wear pure cotton loose cloth, maintain proper pelvic hygiene
2. Fungal infection: Diagnosis require examination and KOH mount.
I would treat as follow: Application of clotrimazole twice daily for 2 week, Tablet levocetrizine at bed time
3. Boils:
Again examination is must to diagnose. I would treat as follow:
Application of mupirocin ointment twice daily for week
Tablet levocetrizine at bed time
Application of warm pad application.
Maintain proper pelvic hygiene

I suggest you to consult a dermatologist and get examined for proper treatment.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
Best regards
Dr. Sagar
