What Causes Severe Headache In A Teenager Post ACL, PCL And Meniscus Repair Surgery?

My 14 yr old daughter who is an elite soccer player had her acl, pcl and municious repaired on may12. When she awoke from surgury she had a headache (level 7). This headache is in the frontal lobe. It pounds 24 hrs a day. She has never had a headache before. This one is 24 hrs a day for the last 4 months. All scans, mri s show nothing. Would a PET scan be helpful in helping find a reason for these headaches?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello I understand your concern for your daughter.
All scans are normal so I would not advice you to go for PET scan.
She had surgery for her ACL, PCL and municious repaired. This surgery might have been done under spinal or general anesthesia. Headache may be one of the side effect of this as all her scans and MRI are normal.
Second thing is please check her eye status, whether she has refractive error or not. If so she needs spectacles to wear.
As she is soccer player, may be she is stressed due to her knee surgery. You should try to evaluate this. If so you need to comfort her.
For headache you can take aceclofenac+paracetamol combination, ask her to take adequate sleep and be relax.
I find this answer helpful
