What Causes Severe Flank Pain On Right Side Inspite Of Taking Ibuprofen?
Hi, I have been experiencing severe right sided flank pain, gradually increasing in intensity over the past week. It is excruciating if I have to sneeze and a little less on a deep breath. I am able to pass urine comfortably, have no blood, cloudy or smelly urine. I can keep it reasonably under control with 400 mg Ibuprofen. It is worse at night when I lie down. Although it increases the pain if I rest on the right, it does feel more comfortable.

As per your query you have severe flank pain on right side inspite of taking Ibuprofen . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like arthritis , infection in the spine , disk disease , pinched nerve in the back , kidney infection , kidney stones , kidney abscess , pancreatitis and inflammatory illnesses of the bowel such as Crohn’s disease . Constant or severe flank pain may be caused by a serious medical condition, such as an infection in the urinary tract or kidneys or dehydration. If severe flank pain occurs suddenly it could be from kidney stones. If it is chronic then it could be from other causes . I would suggest you to consult general practitioner for proper examination . Doctor may order ultrasound ,X-ray , CTscan , cystoscopy ,urinalysis and urine culture . Doctor may also order kidney function test . Doctor may give you pain killer through IV and hospitalize you for removal of kidney stone or treatment of pancreatitis depending upon the diagnosis .
