What Causes Severe Cramps In The Legs?

Hello I have been waking up for the last week with severe leg (calf and foot) cramps and am not sure what is causing these. My latest lab report showed normal electrolyte imbalances My doctor suggested I drink four ounces of tonic water at bedtime, and if this does not help, stop my Lovastatin for two weeks. I presently take it three times a week. I do not take any diuretics which may cause dehydration. Other meds are Losartan for blood pressure, Lovastatin 3 x a week, levothyroxine daily 0.88 mcgs, meloxicam 15 mg daily and a multivitamin for Women over age 50. Is there anything else that may be helpful?
