What Causes Severe Cough Followed After Sore Throat?

Started with sore throat, sore throat is gone by a sporadic, barking cough is occurring. Occasional sputum, predominantly pale yellow, intermittently brown. Consistent nasal running, and sinus congestion. Is this something that requires hand on medical attention, or may I continue to treat as I have been?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to healthcare magic.
I had gone through your question.
This could be sinus infection. The cough could be due to the post nasal drip.
Nothing to worry. You will be fine.
I recommend the following.
1) A course of antibiotics.
2) Antihistamine like levocetrizine with phenylephrine. Relieve nasal congestion and post nasal drip. Once the post nasal drip comes down, the cough will be automatically relieved.
3) Oxymetazoline nasal drops to relieve nasal congestion. Don't use this drops continuously for more than 6 days.
4) Steam inhalation to promote sinus ventilation.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any questions, I am happy to help.

Wish you a good health.

Regards,
Dr Paparaja S MBBS MS
