What Causes Severe Chest Pain?

I am experiencing severe, stabbing pain in a small area right in the center of my chest, about at the breastbone. It has been going on since 7 PM and it is now 2 AM. Tums have not helped. Nauseated, but nothing in stomach to come up. This has happened four or five times in the last 7months, and usually responds to antiacids within an hour or two. Can t sleep or lay down. All I had to eat today was toast and a yogurt, last food at 6PM. Had stomach ache yesterday after eating beef and a very small piece of cheesecake, but not this severe and not centrally located. Have cardiomyopathy and am in heart failure. Have an ICD.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You will need to have a heart examination to rule out heart problems as the cause of the chest pain, especially given that you do have cardiomyopathy and heart failure.

ou will need an EXG, heart enzyme levels (troponin) and a heart ultrasound. According to the results, the doctor will determine further management.

I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.

Regards,
