What Causes Severe Bleeding After Stopping Birth Control Pills?

I just stopped birth control (seasonique) last week. I got my period on Saturday and it has been extremely heavy with passing clots and some mucas (which I ve never seen before, but have read it s normal after stopping birth control) but today I realized my stool has been a bright green color and I was wondering if this is normal/ why it happened. Please help!

Hello,

After stopping birth control pills, it is normal to have heavy bleeding. As the body gets adjusted with the changes in the hormones your periods will become regular and you will bleed normally. No worries. Just take care of your diet, take home made nutritious food rich in iron, magnesium, calcium and proteins. You are having green stool. It can be a temporary condition that results from eating certain foods or taking specific medications or supplements.

Bacteria like Salmonella, the water parasite giardia, and norovirus are all potential causes and can cause green stool. Food poisoning also causes green stool. Green poop are a sign of digestive complications like malabsorption syndrome, dehydration, malnutrition, and low level of potassium. Although passing of green poop itself is not dangerous but may require treatment if bacteria or parasites are detected.

Green stools are also caused in pregnancy due to IBS, diet changes, vitamins, prenatal medicines, etc. Get a stool test done, stool examination (R/E and C/S). If bacteria, parasite, etc., is detected, you will be given conservative treatment. In the meantime, stay away from addictions if any and take boiled food for a couple of days. Avoid spicy, oily, junk food.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,

Birth control pills are hormonal pills and they cause bleeding after withdrawing them. In the same way you got bleeding after stopping the Seasonique pills which are known to cause irregular type of bleeding. As to the greenish stools. It mostly happens after eating green vegetables. Please don't worry, if there is no loose motion or pain in bowels.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
