What Causes Severe Bladder And Vaginal Pain Post Colonoscopy?

Following my colonoscopy, I have had severe bladder pain, also vaginal pain. I am not sexually active, so uncertain as to why I have vaginal discomfort. The doctor placed me on antibiotics for 5 days, also the medication that makes your urine orange. I m not having regular bowel movements like I did prior to colonoscopy, mostly diarrhea and loose stools. Bladder pain is becoming almost unbearable. It does not hurt when I lay down.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my surgical experience, the amount of severe pain and vaginal pain indicates cystitis or vaginal infection with urethritis following dehydration status, altered vaginal flora or else, rather than colonoscopy procedure itself. However, it is best recommended to undertake a urine microscopy with or without culture, vaginal swab for bacteriological evaluation for final verdict of comments in your case to explore the possible reasons and further guidelines. Till that time, plenty of liquids and vaginal hygiene are corner stone of the therapy.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
