What Causes Severe Anxiety While Treating Parkinson S Disease?
My mother is on sinimet. She has been on this for a while, she has Parkinson s. She is experiencing a lot of anxiety and obsessing about her sugar. Diabetes lI. She is having serious anxiety. Gets up from bed wants to walk around back to bed repeat x 50. She gets Trazadone mirtizapine at bed time and we ve started relying on Xanax to ca her however it puts her to sleep. We just started to notice her fingernails are turning dark
I would explain that anxiety is a common complication of levodopa therapy (sinemet). Trazodone and mirtazapine can help in this regard. But, both these drugs increase sleepiness and may have some interactions, possibly leading to serotonin syndrome. Coming to this point, I would recommend discussing with her doctor on the possibility of making some changes to her therapy (stopping one of these drugs and starting an anti-psychotic drug instead, to help with her obsessions). Hope you will find this answer helpful! Kind regards, Dr. Aida
