What Causes Severe Abdominal Pain Along With Vomiting During Menstruation?

Hello, I got my period today, and ever since I had my son (2 years ago) they have been horrible. I get minimum bleeding but so much pain it feels like I m in labour. I can t eat and have to take a gravol just to stop from throwing up. I have 2 kids 6 and 2, both boys. I also recently (may 14) had my gallbladder taken out. My mom also had endometriosis when she was my age, so I m trying to rule that possibility out. 2 extra strength Tylenol don t seem to help with the pain and I m not really a pull taker so I haven t tried anything else. Any advice on what s going on with my body would be great and what I could try to help with the pain would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello.
I have gone through your question and understand your concern. My advice to you is to undergo ultra sound [abdomen and pelvis] to rule out any reproductive pathology including endometriosis. The mode of treatment vary for different conditions causing dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps). Sometimes, intake of pain killers for menstrual cramps may aggravate symptoms of nausea and vomiting. It is important to take pain killers just at the right time when cramps start and in some cases pain killers are not enough to reduce pain; in such conditions birth control pills or surgical intervention are advised to relive symptoms. Hence it is very important to come to a diagnosis for the cause of dysmenorrhea to start a treatment suitable for patient. Apart from medications, keeping a warm heating pad over your lower abdomen during pain and mild to moderate regular exercise help ease the pain as such measures improve blood circulation to uterus. Hope your concern is answered. Thank you.
