If you have not developed any episodes of fits within the past two years, an attempt can be made to stop you epilepsy medicine by gradually reducing the dose over a period of 6 months. Before stopping the drug you may need some investigations such as electroencephalogram (EEG). If the EEG is normal you can stop the drug gradually. It is advisable to consult the neurologist before stopping the drug. The exact cause for the occurrence of fits in majority of patients is not known.
