What Causes Salty Taste In Mouth After Having Catfish?

I ate catfish about three nights ago and thought it was a little too salty. Since then, I have eaten other foods and they all seem to be too salty. Today, I had not eaten anything but it felt as if I was pouring salt down in my mouth and down into my stomach. I usually drink two or more bottles of water a day and other liquids so I don't think I am dehydrated...what may be the cause.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you have symptoms of salty taste in mouth which is mainly due to allergic reaction of oral mucosa post intake of catfish. If you have taken tea along with it , symptoms are rather worse. It could be because of gastroesophageal reflux disease or sinus infection.

I would suggest you to exclude acidic foods like coffee, soft drinks, orange juice, tomatoes etc. Increase fluid intake in diet. Avoid hot and spicy food as well. Change tooth paste as bacteria of mouth could become resistant to that. Maintain proper hygiene by antimicrobial mouth wash. Prevent bacterial accumulation by brushing and flossing.

Visit ENT specialist once and get your taste buds examined and get proper check up of sinuses and start treatment accordingly.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
