What Causes Right-sided Pain By The Rib Cage?

Hello Doctor, I have pain in my right side, right where my rib cage ends. Would that still be considered abdominal pain or would that be considered chest pain? The pain is generally sharp and started three hours ago. Associated with this pain I have pain in my neck/shoulders which is probably due to sitting at a computer and my arms hurt at the elbows. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The pain you are describing is very likely on the abdomen (the end of the rib cage). As for the origin of the pain, I think it sounds to be related to muscles.
Because you have neck/shoulder pain as well and you mention that it may be related to the position when you work on your computer, it is very likely the pain on your abdomen is due to muscles as well.

You can take ibuprofen and paracetamol to help with the pain and also use local warm compresses. If you are not better with these or you feel any worse, it is best to see your doctor.

I hope this answers your query.
I remain at your disposal for further medical assistance.

Regards,
