What Causes Right-sided Mouth Twitches After Treating Cyst On Jawline?

For years I have noticed that when I blink or close my eyes the right side of my mouth twitches simultaneously. I am 38 yrs old now but when I was abour a year old I had a cyst on my jawline that the doctor removed and I am wondering if he cut the nerves in my face and that is what is causing the twitching. Over the last 5 years the right side of my jaw has been in alot of pain due to having tmj as well as the muscles being over used from blinking and twitching constantly. What can be done about this problem?

Hi Dear,

welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

Brief Answer - Trigeminal Neuralgia

As per your query you have right sided mouth twitches after treating cyst on jawline which is because of trigeminal nerve injury, a nerve which supplies to areas around ear, eye, lips, nose, scalp, forehead, cheeks, teeth, or jaw and side of the face. Trigeminal Neuralgia is the main cause of your condition and symptoms that is why you are having TMJ problems as well along with twitching of muscles.

I would suggest you to visit dental surgeon or ENT specialist for this. Anticonvulsant drugs such as Carbamapizine, Gabapentin are first line treatment options for this. Morphine, Duloxetine are used to control pain for your condition.

You can go for surgery as well gamma knife radio surgery and micro vascular decompression are treatment methods after proper examination by surgeon.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
