What Causes Repetitive Occurrence Of Rhabdomyolysis?

My son is in the hospital with rhabdo for the second time in a year. He has been an elite gymnast, and is now a coach. Competed, and won, a crossfit type competition at a gymnastics camp last week which seems to have caused the rhabdo this time. He does work out every day, so he is used to a hard work out. He has taken adderral for years, he does drink, and he was on synthroid for several years and took himself off of that. Everything I read seems to indicate that getting rhabdo once is rare, so I m wondering if we should be testing him for something to see why he got it twice.
