What Causes Redness Of Scar Tissue After Breast Reduction Surgery?

ABout 7 years ago I had breast reduction surgery. Now in a very small area where the stitches were around the nipple, there is a line about 1/2 inch- where there is scar tissue, and it s become fairly red over the past 2 weeks. I can feel the scar tissue, or small raised area underneath. I am getting a mammogram Monday, but I d like to know if scar tissue that old can get inflamed for some reason after that long a time. I also have a call into the surgeon who performed the procedure. Thanks for any information.

hi.

it is best if you follow-up with your surgeon for clinical evaluation. there's a possibility of a skin infection or inflammation. it is best to have it checked. proper medical management (antibiotic regimen) and wound care will be directed accordingly.

hope this helps.

good day!!
