What Causes Redness And Irritation On The Sclera Of A Child?
My 8 year old son had a small red area of irritation on white of eye and it is now spread and he says it hurts. Don t think it was scratched or poked. What can I do to make it feel better ? Should I take him to eye dr ? Doesn t have goop or seem like pink eye yet... Thanks
If there is no generalised redness or stickiness, this might be a foreign body insult which might have gone unnoticed. Just apply an artificial tear drop (hydroxy methyl cellulose)- 2 drops every 4 hours, and give him paracetamol for pain if needed for 2-3 days. If stickiness, lid edema or yellow coloured discharge appears, kindly take him to your pediatrician or ophthalmologist for further management. Otherwise we need not worry.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
