What Causes Red Rashes On The Anal Region In A Child?

My lil 23 month old grandson has a red raised rash around his butt hole with white pimple looking dots. After searching the photos on the net it looks like a yeast infection. He has Nystatin Ointment from a rash when he was a baby, will this help? And should we give him lots of yogurt? What is it caused from and how can we prevent it?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms of your child seem to be related to a yeast infection. I recommend using an antifungal cream for local application such as antifungal Nystatin cream.

I also recommend keeping the area clean and dry. I suggest using cotton loose clothes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
