Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I ve recently been for a smear an the doctor noticed that I had a red patch on my cervix and has fast tracked me for a colposcopy should I be worried ? An what could this be ? I ve had a sour smell along with non menstural bleeding too ?? But all swabs for infections came back fine with no further action to be taken ?
Hello and welcome to HCM, A red patch on cervix could be due to infection, inflammation, erosion etc. A swab test has ruled out infection. There is a possibility of erosion. Erosion is a common phenomenon seen in may healthy menstruating females. It is caused by replacement of ectocervical lining with lining of the endocervix. The associated bleeding could also be due to erosion. The replaced lining is fragile and can bleed. Thus, no immediate action needs to be taken, but you can follow it up with regular pap tests to detect any pre-neoplastic or neoplastic lesion.
