What Causes Red Hard Painful Lump In The Armpit?

I have a hard, painful, red lump in my armpit that when pinched between forefinger and thumb does not move . It has been apparent for approx. 4 weeks. It has not changed in size. My overall health is good. No recent illness. I have been using the same roll on deodorant for the past year. I am a 48 year old female, have been going through menopause, without medication, for 2 years. There is a history of breast cancer on my mothers side of the family.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you are having red hard painful lump in the armpit. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query bacterial or viral infections , fat tissue growths (lipomas) , allergic reactions , noncancerous , fibrous tissue growth (fibroadenoma) , breast cancer , cancer of the lymphatic system and lupus or SLE . Sometimes infection remain even after drainage and treatment may grow again. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult general practitioner without any delay . Doctor may order X-ray , ultra sound and blood test . Doctor may also order biopsy . Doctor may prescribe stronger antibiotics , anti viral drug ( acyclovir ) along with anti inflammatory . Doctor may recommend surgical removal and radiation therapy .
