What Causes Red Bumps That Began To Scab Up?

I was diagnosed with scabies April 8. I used the permethrin 5% on 4/8, 4/15, and 4/22. Once again on 4/29. Back to dermatologist on 5/4, prescribed ivermectin, took it on 5/7. I have been doing laundry daily and still have the AWFUL itch. Several of the red bumps have formed tiny scabs that look like pepper, but I am still getting random red bumps. I inherited these creepy things in a hospital! Help please. Thank you.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

I hope you do not have any problem with the blood sugar, kidneys or liver, one of the causes of generalized itching. First of all, get blood tested for CBC, sugar, liver functions and kidney functions. Change all the linen, curtains, beds, sofa covers etc., which may have a potent source of allergens. No pets or dampness in the bed / house to avoid all the mold and mildew.

Have you ever tried to leave the area of your residence and tried to be out of your city? If yes, was there any reduction in your symptoms? Have you noticed and factor/s that reduces or increases your problem? The use of multiple products itself can increase your problems, what we call is dermatitis medicamentosa.

I advise a course of oral steroids in tapering dosage. Stop all local creams and sprays. Use only liquid Povidone iodine to be applied to the whole body. Oral medicines that will reduce your stress and anxiety and help to alleviate the psychogenic factor. This has a direct effect in positive outcome. We have to break the vicious cycle somewhere.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
