What Causes Recurring Yeast Infection Post Total Hysterectomy?

Yes, I had a total hysterectomy a year ago and had everything removed including ovaries. I have had three yeast infections since then. Is that normal plus not to be gross but I don t use protection with my spouse and he does ejaculate in me. Could that cause it too. I have been checked for diabetes. Could lipitor cause it too.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Yeast infection following hysterectomy is related to antibiotics you have used during or after the intervention. Plus, you say not to use protection and your husband ejaculates inside. The mixture of sperm with vaginal secretions will make your infection worse. In this case, your husband should get tested and treated along with you. Try to wash your genitalia immediately after ejaculation. This will prevent aggravation of symptoms. You need oral and vaginal treatment but first get a vaginal swab testing done.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
