What Causes Recurring Synovial Cyst?

Hello. I have a recurring synovial cyst in the L4/L5 region. Symptoms are typical causing nerve pressure and leg right leg discomfort. I had the cyst drained Dec 2014 and was informed that recurrence was likely. Is there value in re-attempting the evacuation of the cyst or should I consider surgical removal. Spine degeneration as observed by MRI was considered minor.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Since, the synovial cyst is recurring, surgical excision would be the definitive treatment.
However, before attempt in excision of the lesion, a X-ray spine is required to assess the site and its relation to the underlying structures.
In case, the cyst communicates with the spinal canal, it may be risky to surgically excise the cyst.
In case the cyst is at safe distance from the spinal cord, it can be safely removed,
I suggest you to consult a surgeon or preferably a neurosurgeon for surgical assessment and thus management.

Thanks and take care
