What Causes Recurring Spotting At The 5th Week Of Pregnancy?

I ve been spotting on and off everyday.. 5 weeks pregnant. I ve been to the doctors, gestational sac is present, yolk sac is forming like it should. They keep saying its normal, and only to worry if I bleed heavy like an actual period but I still worry. I m also constipated and if I strain, I tend to bleed more.. Which makes me scared to use the bathroom. How is the spotting normal??

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

20% of pregnant women bleed in the first trimester. As long as the pregnancy is confirmed to be in the womb, and the sac is forming as it should, there is nothing else to be done but just watch how it will be in the next few weeks. More than half of these pregnancies go on normally.
As for constipation, you may take Movicol to help you have softer stools and easy to move in your bowel- this is safe in pregnancy. Any worsening of the bleeding warrants a visit with your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
