What Causes Recurring Spike In BP With Elevated Heart Rate?

Hi. This afternoon, I was feeling like my hr was racing a bit, even at rest, and took my bp and hr. Should I be concerned that my diastolic and systolic pressures are too close if my bp was 118/103 with an hr of 113? I re-took it an hour later and it s risen slightly, now 134/103 with resting hr of 117. I m a fairly healthy 46 year old woman of average weight, but have a significant heart history in that my father died at age 40 of cardiac arrest and my younger brother has suffered 2 strokes.

Dr. Hanif warmly Welcomes you!

Thanks for consulting at my virtual clinic. I have carefully worked through your case, and I can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I assure you not to worry as I will take care all of your medical concerns.

You have high diastolic blood pressure and need urgent care. You should consult your physician for hypertension medications and you need to take the medicines for life long. As you have a strong family history of cerebrovascular accidents and cardiac disease, its highly likely that you may be affected if you don't take care of your blood pressure. High heart rate is also due to the same scenario.

Avoid high salt diet. Don't take much of the protein diet. Avoid high fat diet. No sodas, caffeeinated drinks, no fast foods. Start regular physical activity to avoid complications.

You need to consult your physician to rule out hyperlipidemia. For that he will go for fasting lipid profile. Fasting blood sugar levels are also needed to rule out diabetes. Cardiac diseases/diabetes/stroke all have correlation especially if genetically predisposed too.

Hope it helps. If you need further, detailed and quick assistance related to any health issues in future, feel free to 'ask me a question' directly from my profile.

Have a wonderful time ahead.

Best Regards!
