What Causes Recurring Pain In The Body While Being Menopausal?

My wife has been having unexpected sudden pains in various places arms, legs, shoulder/neck area.. pain comes unexpectedly in waves hangs around for awhile... then suddenly just goes away... has been few weeks. she is 52 and yes some menopause starting hot flashes etc... but we have been told these pain symptoms do not match menapause issues. Has has been to family doctor twice- 2nd time today with negative blood test results. There are times there is pain in her should then other times in her upper arms (1 of 2 at a time- not both at same time) not sure if in muscle or bones, sometimes pain comes in legs... cannot walk very well due to weight support (she is only 119 pounds)... but pain comes in waves and hangs around for awhile then leaves suddenly. she cannot even lift things at times as painful these various places at various times. No real pattern to the pain in limbs and neck/shoulder... We read and with these various symptoms- seems to fall as possible lyme disease maybe? ... we read blood tests show negative much of the time with lyme can be and inconclusive for lyme much of the time? Due to inconclusive negative blood test 3 weeks ago and another strike out at family docs today with no medicine prescribed... inattentive situation from local docs office... so far..., can we get any medicine over the counter to possibly start trying to treat for lyme disease on our own or could it be something else? She doessnot make this stuff up as i am witness to this helping twist tops off and lifting things at times past 3-4 weeks for her ... other times she is perfectly fine... no way to predict when pain will come? Help... Husband needing some answers for her soon...

Hello,

It could be due to hormonal changes associated with menopause. As first-line management, you can take analgesics like paracetamol or aceclofenac for pain relief.

If symptoms persist better to consult a gynaecologist and get evaluated. You might improve with hormone replacement therapy(HRT).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
