What Causes Recurring Muscle Weakness And Numbness In Body?
My 71 year old mother-in-law has recently had some sudden muscle weakness events in her legs, with radiating numbness moving up one side of her body into her arm. It has happened on both sides of her body, and usually happens after laying down, or sitting for any length of time. It has happened at least 5+ times, and is getting progressively worse each time?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query. Such symptom can be caused by insufficient blood supply to the toes or nerve compression. If her feet get cold and pale with the numbness and the numbness goes away when she do stop walking, arterial problem (like arterosclerosis) is the most probable reason. she may have also calf pain with this issue. If her feet are warm and do not get pale and you have back pain, spine disc problem is the most probable reason. In case of arterial problem, please consult general surgeon at first. If the numbness seems to be caused by spine problem, she should consult orthopedist.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
