What Causes Recurrent Right-sided Painful Muscular Spasms In The Chest?

I have a regular tender area in the right side of my ribs and occasionally it spasms to where I can t breath and so painful it brings me to my knees. Used to last just an hour or so. Last time I ended up in ER twice, CT Scan showed nothing and spasms lasted for 4 days. Spasms wrap around my ribs and any movement of my body will cause severe pain when having an episode. Nothing in particular brings it on, I was asleep last time it happened.

Hello....I understand your concern.
Recurrent muscular spasms could be a symptom of hypothyroidism.
Since you have already undergone a ct which has come out normal i would suggest that you get your thyroid function tested.
Another possibility is severe vitamin d deficiency so it is advisable you get levels of vit.d tested as well.
Also get an ekg as well as as an electrolyte panel done.
If it is indeed hypothroidism it is easily amenable to treatment.
I prescribe my patients with similar spasms vitamin e (tocopherol) along with l-carnitine for symptomatic relief till the diagnosis is confirmed.
Consult you local physician who will guide you on how to go about the tests.
I hope this helps...
Regards,
