What Causes Recurrent Itchy Rashes On The Arms And Trunk?

My 25 year old grand daughter has developed a rash that moves around on her body. She gets raised pimple type bumps that hurt and itch and sometimes drain on her trunk or arms. They heal up but come back. She has a new one on her abdomen. Do you have any idea what is going on? She thinks it is related to gluten.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear. There are lot of causes of itchy rashes. Most common cause allergic dermatitis, fungal infection, scabies, shingles etc.

Most commonly it may be due to some allergen. She has to identify what exactly is causing her allergy. people may be allergic to certain foods like egg, fish, certain cloth material, pollen grains from plants outside, animal hair, new detergents and soaps etc etc. She needs to find out for herself what exactly is causing her allergy and avoid it. She can also use certain creams. Allergy can be treated with medications, including over-the-counter creams and ointments containing the steroid hydrocortisone (for example, Cortizone-10, Cort-Aid, Dermarest Eczema, Neosporin Eczema). These products may help control the itching, swelling, and redness associated with eczema. Prescription-strength cortisone creams, as well as cortisone pills and shots, are also used for more severe cases of eczema.

If she is not feeling better with the above methods she can consult a dermatologist who will take detailed history, examine and come to a diagnosis.

Hope i have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I ll be glad to help you.
All the best
With warm regards
