What Causes Recurrent Glioblastoma?

My very close friend has recurrent glioblastoma. She was in an immunotherapy trial but her mri today showed shadowing. The doctor has taken her out of the trial since it wasn t working and will now be starting her on avastin infusions to improve her quality of life. He told her not to worry about the shadowing. I have two questions. What does shadowing mean and how much time does this usually give someone with recurrent glioblastoma? Thank you.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor services.
I have read your query and here is my advise.

* So far as cause of recurrence is concerned, it is in nature of
glioblastoma to be most malignant astrocytic tumor of the central
nervous system, and nothing can be much done to avoid recurrence
despite all advances of gene therapy, targeted cell therapy, radio,
chemo, resections and so forth.

* Shadowing means the most possible pathology recurrence.

Thanks.
Take care.
