What Causes Recurrent Fever And Rashes Inspite Of Taking Benedryl And Tylenol?
my nephew is experiencing the following symptoms. It started with red eyes, overnight they got all matted up, after he woke up this morning he felt tired and worn out, in 45 minutes time he developed a rash on his face and throat, his lips are swollen with the rash and had a fever start. my sister took him to the ER, they are in a small town and are confused as to what may be happening. they said it was pink eye and a bad reaction to the infection. gave him an epi pen, benedryl dose, and tylenol, the fever dropped, the rash started to go away. 3 hrs later, his fever has spied back up twice, the rash is back and worse than before, and now has moved down to his torso on the front and back. do you know what might be causing these symptoms?

Fever, rash spreading down and redness of mouth & eyes- Most probably this is a viral fever. If he do not have symptoms like throat pain or yellow nasal discharge (suggesting scarlet fever), is not very lethargic and taking feeds, no need to worry now. Just continue benadryl and Tylenol for 3 days. Apply calamine lotion twice daily over rash to soothe the area.
Let him take bed rest, drink enough fluids and have a soft diet. Most likely he will be fine in 2-3 days. Otherwise, kindly get him back to doctor for further evaluation.
