General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It is normal for a 9-month-old to get a cough from time to time, and usually, we would not recommend using any medications, because medications do not generally help and can have dangerous side effects at this age.

I would especially not use cortisone at this age. If the baby is having a fever, you can use acetaminophen at an appropriate dose for the weight, and if the cough is frequent or persistent, the baby will likely need further evaluation for any lung or immune problems.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
