What Causes Recurrent Cold And Cough While Treating Parotitis?

My son (7.5) has been dealing with pariotitis. We ve had blood work done and have seen several specialist. They seem to say he ll out grow it! But it s hard to put him on an antibiotic every month with flare ups! Is there any correlation to him developing a normal cold or cough and have that trigger his swollen Salvatory glands? Thanks!

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of recurrent cold and cough while treating parotitis which seems to be due to swelling of parotid gland i.e on outer side of jaw just below ear and sometimes in throat.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult oral physician once and get complete examination done. You should get X-ray done to evaluate any blockage as gland swells after meals due to increase saliva production. Recurrent cold and cough can exaggerate symptoms definitely.

You should give child proper course of antibiotics along with antiinflammatory medications after proper prescription.

Avoid hot, sharp, spicy food. You should give cough expectorants to child.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
