What Causes Recurrent Abdominal Spasm Despite Taking Antibiotics For Diverticulitis?

I have been diagnosed with diverticulitis previously. The first time, was severe pain, and took antibiotics and two weeks of recovering. The second time, I got antibiotics before it turned into a bad flair up. I now have spasms, and when pressing on my side, I have pain. Should I get antibiotics again? Do I wait until I have another extreme case to go to the doctor? Can I die from this, if it is a bad flair up?

Respected user, hi I evaluated your query thoroughly .
* Antibiotics will take care of the inflammatory portion in diverticulitis , you
need anti-spasmodic molecules to take care of the spasms associated
which will relax the smooth muscles of the intestines .
* In our clinic , we recommend to give
Cap. Prilosec (20)mg morning and evening 1 hour before meals
Tab. Dicyclomine (20)mg morning and evening after meals
for 3-5 days initially , later on dose adjustments according to the recovery
* Along with this all major life style modifications play vital role in it :
- drink plenty of liquids preferably boiled water, rice water, coconut water ,
lemon juice , butter milk
- have small amount of soft diet at regular intervals
- avoid prolong fasting / over eating
- avoid sleeping for 2 hours after meals
- fix the timings of breakfast , lunch , dinner till possible
- avoid late night parties , dinners
- avoid all oily / spicy / non vegetarian stuffs / beverages / junk foods
- avoid smoking / alcohol / abuse substances if any
- avoid other pain killers as ibuprofen / diclofenac problematic in your case
- avoid stress / anxiety ( very vital component missed by many doctors )
- have regular sound sleep of 7-8 hrs
- remain ambulatory , regular walking , light exercises at home with YOGA
help a lot at long term basis
- Be Positive , have faith in almighty God . Your destiny is pre written & you
have to follow the path for you , rather than getting panic & stressed out
Regarding death , you can survive toughest episodes of diverticulitis flare
up also .
Hope this clears your query .
