What Causes Random Nosebleeds?

What could be cause of random nosebleeds? They started happening a couple of years ago (I am now 60). Once it happened while I was at a table eating with friends. Once it happened while I was stooped over gardening. It happens about once every few months.

Hello dear user!
I have gone through your query and understood your concerns!
Thank you for sharing them on healthcaremagic.
Spontaneous nose bleeding once in a couple of months as you mention in you query is not an issue to be worried a lot. There are several factors that may give nose bleeding at this age.
- First, and the most common is High Blood Pressure.
Please check your blood pressure 2-3 times a day to understand how it varies during the day, and especially when nose bleeding occurs.
- Low platelets in blood.
Low platelets may be an other cause of epistaxis and it may happen due to a large list of diseases, but in these cases the bleeding is almost every day.
- Hot and dry air, pollution, fragile blood vessels of the inner nose, etc, are very rare but possible. Also there is no need to be worried about.
Anyway I would recommend you to go through a complete blood count analysis, lipids and sugar in blood to have a closer view of your health status. You can write us again if you have more details and questions to ask. I'll be happy to answer.

I hope this answer was helpful to you!
