What Causes Radiating Pain In Upper Abdomen And Back?

I have a cramp type pain that starts at my upper abdomen and radiated around both sides to my back. I also have back spasms due to spondilothes(sp?) So I m not sure if it is a muscle spasm or my liver, gallbladder or pancreas. I have Crohns, but it doesn t seem like that type of pain. Haven t had a bowl movement in 4 days (sometimes normal for me). Also, I am on my period. So, could it be a combo of things?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, with a history of Crohn's and decreased stool output and such pains any signs of internal strictures or blockage should be ruled out.

I suggest taking an X-ray abdomen erect for any blood gases or dilated gut loops.

Also, stool analysis for any occult blood and calprotectin level for disease activity may be needed. I suggest taking a gastroenterologist review.

Meanwhile, OTC analgesics like acetaminophen along with antispasmodic like drotavarine can be helpful for symptomatic relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
