Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Most likely it is only a contusion in your knee so icing and painkillers will help. Any bleeding which has occurred at the time of injury is likely to spread on dependent areas so do not worry about the spread of bruising. It will take a few months for bruising to go down. If pain and instability occur in the knee and then go for MRI.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
