What Causes Prolonged Vaginal Bleeding After Getting A Steroid Shot?
Hi, I have had a steroid injection in my foot for tendon pain three weeks ago at the beginning of my period. I have been bleeding ever since. I have had a transvaginal scan and everything looks healthy but I forgot to ask about whether the steroid injections could effect menstrual cycle? If so how long is my cycle likely to be affected as my husband and I were trying to conceive our third child

General & Family Physician, Dr. Alma Neço's Response
Hello dear, Thank you for your question.
In my opinion, a vaginal bleeding that lasts for such a long period needs to be evaluated by an ob-gyn specialist. Please do not underestimate this condition, since it may lead to serious problems like: anaemia, hypotension etc. which can affect your health and your future baby as well.
Rest assured that a single dose of steroids, no matter how big it is, cannot cause adverse effects on the menstrual cycle and therefore on your ability to conceive a child.
I hope this helped. Best wishes, Dr. Alma.
