What Causes Prolonged Menstrual Bleeding?

I m almost 45. I got my period on sep 1st, and it seems to be lasting for two weeks so far. This is very abnormal for me since my periods are usually done in 3-4 days. Up until today it was more like spotting but then today it became pretty heavy where I had to actually wear a tampon.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It can be related to menopause.
In the years close to the menopause, (45 years of age onwards) heavy periods are usually a sign of hormone imbalance.
It will pass gradually.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
