What Causes Prolonged Menstrual Bleeding?

I have been bleading for two weeks already at first my period was heavy. I would change pad atleast 4-5 times in less the 8 hours or more. I notice a lot of blood cloths. The color is red like period blood. But now I kind of stop the heavy period I just been bleeding a little bit but I have been encountering an abdominal pain on my left side it comes and it goes but sometimes it hurts a lot and when I put a tampon on when i take it out i notice the tampons color is kind of redish and with black little dots sometimes and it smells a little bit its not a fault smell. i have not gone to the doctor but i look foward in going this week since i am begining to worry. what can i do in the mean while? can you please help me.

Hi, I think you should do a thyroid profile and prolactin levels and a ultrasound for your uterus and ovaries to find out the cause of heavy bleeding. Get yourself examined by a gynecologist to rule out any other cause.
