What Causes Pressure And Ringing In The Ears?

I have been having a lot of pressure and ringing in my ear. At night when I lay down and shut my eyes I get an electrical shock. It doesn t make me dizzy but can occur several times in the night. I don t notice it in the day unless I take a nap. I do notice the ringing in my ears.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You have to consult an ENT surgeon. You need to examine the ear under microscopy. To assess the hearing we need to do a pure tone audiogram. When hearing gets decreased sometimes there occurs ringing sensation of ear. We have to do Impedance audiogram.

To differentiate whether it is due to your balance system of ear or due to nerve for hearing, recruitment test should be done. But just now avoid coffee, tea, smoking, alcohol.

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions.
Regards,
Dr. Rajat Basak
