Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pressure And Muffled Hearing In The Left Ear?
My husband is having ear problems. Only on the left side. He said that is feels like pressure if you were driving up a mountain or flying that he cannot clear. So his hearing on that side is muffled. He said it is a little sore if he pokes at it but otherwise not. Any ideas?
It seems that pressure inside the ear along with muffled hearing can be most probably due to fluid accumulation behind the eardrum and blocked the Eustachian tube.
I would suggest you consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like X-ray, otoscopy etc., can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.
You can be advised a course of antibiotics, oral as well as nasal decongestants like Xylometazoline nasal sprays. Along with it, steam inhalation and chewing gum can help.
In case of no improvement in 15 days surgical drainage by making a small incision through the eardrum can help.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
