Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I ve had clear liquid pouring from one nostril on a few different occasions. In the past year or less it has happened in my sleep a few times. It happened at work and also happened last Saturday in the middle of my soccer game. It went on for a couple minutes and I have no control over it, it feels like a bloody nose but the liquid is clear and a lot thinner. I went to immediate care and he gave me medicine to help the swelling in my nostril & then sore throat medicine, but that s all. He made me nervous when he said it could be spinal chord fluid, but doesn t seem like it is. During any occasion that it happened was I sick. Very random!
Hello dear I understand your concern Clear fluid from the nose suggest cerebrospinal fluid . It may be due to brain trauma and it aggravate the meningitis I would suggest to go for CT scan of head Chemical analysis of CSF for beta transferrin as it is marker of CSF leakage. Meanwhile take the following advice: Take bed rest Head rise about 15-30 degree. Decreased excretion, Avoid sneezing, coughing. Antibiotics; cefuroxime Diuretics like acetazolamide can be useful If not responds then surgery will require. Hope this may help you
